I really enjoyed watching this movie. I think I've not laughed so much in a long time. Humor Jack Black was amazingly funny (and overweight) and Downey carried his role perfectly. Ben Stiller however was more like Jim Carrey; the same in this role as every other. That may be just the ticket for some. It worked for me. Non-Humor The character Simple Jack. A supposedly retarded man who speaks to animals. Going the full retard. An actor portraying a retarded person as completely retarded without allowing the character to have any evidence of being more mentally developed. Although I classified the above as non-humor, few mature people would fail to appreciate the humor in the scenes without also acknowledging the wrongness of making fun of retarded people. Tom Cruise Even though I was aware he was in the movie, it wasn't until the credits rolled that it dawned on me which character he played. The voice didn't give him away or his body shape because of the fat suit. The fat suit wasn't like an Eddie Murphy fat suit. This one was very realistic and somewhat muscular. Amazingly, even though he gazes into the camera a few times, his eyes don't even look like his. Warning There is one scene which had me ready to gag. It was funny and juvenile yet it was all I could do to keep down my beer. Favorite Scene Jack Black tied to the tree.
