In our house, we look (okay, fine..I look) for products for our son that are safe, educational, convenient, and innovative. Most of the Boon products we have are indeed almost all of the above. The Boon Snack Ball Snack container is safe, convenient, and innovative. I suppose it could be considered educational, since I have found that everything in our son's life helps him to learn and develop in a multitude of ways.
What is the Boon Snack Ball Snack Container?
The Boon Snack Ball Snack Container is a crush-proof snack container that holds small snacks for your child. It is recommended for children over the age of nine months. It is (top-rack) dishwasher safe. It is sold at various locations (both online and brick and mortar). We purchased our Snack Ball Snack Container online via amazon.com and paid around six dollars or so for it.
What Does the Boon Snack Ball Snack Container Look Like and How Do You Use It?
The Boon Snack Ball Snack Container is a really fun and cool little snack container. It is a sphere that is made up of two light-ish blue/gray halves that screw together (this is a signature Boon color that you can also see on their version of the sippy cup and their bowl). The top is orange and circular. This orange top piece is attached onto the top of the sphere by one pin-like device that fastens into the top sphere (there is a hole that you pop the top into). There is a finger indentation on the top of the orange cover, and to open this container you simply place your finger into groove and slide the cover to the left or the right. The colors on this container are really catchy and bright and my son really loves to look at and hold the snack ball. The shape of the ball is perfect for his hands (he is 17 months old). The dimensions of this snack ball are: 3.25 x 3.25 x 3.25". The snack container is so modern and cool looking. Whenever we take it our in public, we always receive positive comments about the look and the design!
What's It Made Of
The Boon Snack Ball Snack Container is made of BpA, phthalate, and PVC FREE hard plastic. This is one of the reasons that I love the feeding products from Boon. I truly try to make a conscious effort to make sure that the things I give my son (including feeding items and food) are free from chemicals that are harmful. Boon is a company that understands that many parents of today want products for their children that are safe and so, many of their products are free from those darn pesky chemicals! Furthermore, the plastic is scratch-resistant. Boy, do I love this! No matter how many times my son throws his container (pretending it is a toy or throwing it down in a oh-so-fun temper tantrum), this baby never scratches. We have owned this snack container for about four months now and over the course of these last four months, my son must have thrown this container down hundreds of times. He's thrown it down onto hardwood flooring, bamboo flooring, concrete...you name the surface, it's all been covered. This snack container holds up well and that makes me happy!
As far as cleaning, all pieces are top-rack dishwasher safe. When fully dismantled, there would be three pieces to wash. We have never had a problem with this in our dishwasher and the colors have not faded at all over time.

Our Experiences with the Boon Snack Ball Snack Container
While we love this little container, it is not without its flaws. With most things, there is a lot of good mixed with some "bad".
The Good
The snack container is great because it perfectly fits into our son's hands. It is also great because he has found it easy to maneuver the lid to get his snacks out. He gets a kick out of pushing to the right and left and taking his snack out. I love to watch him do this: my son makes it look like so much fun! The container holds a good amount of a snack. I have jammed quite a few Teddy Puffs and Earth's Best crackers in there. But it could be bigger, so it could hold more. But then again, if the size was bigger then I doubt our son would be able to firmly grasp it. In any event, the size holds enough for us to only bring that out with us for dinner or lunch. This would not suffice for long trips -- it would not hold enough.
The colors have not faded with dishwasher exposure and the base/top has never scratched. That to me is a bonus!
The rigid shape of this container ensures that whatever snack you pack will not be crushed. I find this to be a great feature. No more messy, broken crackers for us and our Boon!
The cleaning is a cinch: just unscrew the halved and pop off the top. You can then clean away for as long as you like. Putting the container back together again is just as simple. The while process takes about 20 seconds or so. Not too bad in my opinion!
Areas That Could Be Improved
The size of the snack ball overall is great...but the opening for the actual food is not as generous as I would like. My son uses his pincer grasp to take out the snack(s) that are inside. As he grows and his hands get larger, the size of the opening could be a problem.
The orange cover sometimes becomes loose and crumbs may leak into whatever bag you have happened to store it in. I wish Boon could come up with a way that securely fastens the top onto the sphere.
Overall Thoughts
The Boon Snack Ball Snack Container is a safe and modern way to transport snacks for your child. It is super easy to clean and requires no assembly. It fits perfectly into toddier hands and holds quite a lot of little treats.
The hole is narrow and I wish that Boon would expand the size of the opening. Perhaps they can make different sized containers for different age groups.
Boon also needs to address the fact that many times the cap swivels off and your snack will fall! This has happened to us three times and...boy was I made!
The fact that it is PVC, phthalate fee AND BpA free is absolutely fantatsic. Furthermore, the look and feel of this product is great!
I recommend this product with one caveat: remember that the cover could swivel off and spill everywhere (happened to me a few times too many!). I usually remedy this by packing into a front pocket of a diaper bag that it fits snugly into. This way the ball is not jostled around and does not spill.
If you are looking for a container that is stylish and modern...then this one is a keeper. Just beware that the top may come off.
