The Bottom Line amazon.com is one of the best online stores I've found.

I've been using amazon.com for a few years now. Originally I began using it because I won a $25 gift certificate playing games on iwin.com. I'm nearly 21 years old but I have a soft spot for stuffed animals and Star Wars memorabilia. I used that certificate to order a Star Wars alarm clock and several beanie babies. Since then I've become a regular shopper there.
Pros......
Well, obviously, the first pro is that amazon does gift certificates. One can either win a gift certificate on the web or a person can buy a gift certificate for a friend or family member as a gift. Also at certain points amazon does free shipping on orders (ex: on holidays, if items are out of stock and must be back ordered or if purchases exceed $100.)
Items are always shipped promptly and easy to track as well.
Also the website is not very difficult to browse. They have a comprehensive search engine and very nice pictures and descriptions of most products. They also have an auction section but I have never used that part.
Cons......
I have 3 things that COULD be considered cons. The first is that many items are sometimes out of immediate stock. I actually like to buy back ordered items myself though, since it only usually takes a few more days to receive them AND shipping is free on back orders.
The second is that I have heard that IF you have a problem with amazon customer service is nearly impossible to deal with. I've talked to people who have received auto-responses to their e-mail inquiries and sat on hold on the phone for hours. However the point is IF. I have ordered dozens of items from amazon and never once had a problem that required me to contact customer service.
The third is that this is highly addictive. I mean once you use this site you will probably spend far more money buying items than you planned. Watch your bank account!
Other suggestions.....
I strongly suggest that before you buy anything online for any site you do extensive research. You might begin by checking out my epinions on ebay.com and Barnes & Noble.com. I would not stop there though. Try talking to amazon's customer service BEFORE you order anything, for instance, just to see if you can get through. Talk to your friends and family as well and see which online shopping sites they do and do not recommend. In short, don't assume anything. Be a smart shopper or do it the old fashioned way and drive to a store.
