What I like about the site:
1. Easy to use. The shopping cart works good, allowing you to add, modify items ordered.
2. Very wide selection of merchandise - you can get books, music, many other items which are great.
3. A time saver. Although prices are not always the best, it is often easier to deal with one dependable store for "one-stop" shopping. Time is money; I don't have time to surf a bunch of websites.
4. Good specials. One thing that is great is that as of this time (August 2001) they offer free shipping on 2 or more CDs, free for a $40 order of books, check the specials that pop up in the window.
5. You don't have to pay sales tax. That is a nice savings. Between not paying tax and avoiding shipping, 85% of the time you are already ahead of the game! There are bargains out there but you end up paying exorbitant shipping on occasion which is NOT a good deal!
What I dislike about the site:
1. It's not as good as a bookstore where you can browse up and down the aisles, especially for clearance. I like it when things pop up in front of me and I didn't know that was there and then I buy it!
2. No coffee on the website! I say this tongue in cheek. Somehow it is not the same as being in their coffee shop with a biscotti, reviewing your purchases. Plus I always manage to meet people and have an occasional conversation which makes the experience so much nicer. Sure, I can sip a cup of coffee while surfing their site but I do like browsing the aisles or previewing the music in the store where they have headphones to listen to MANY select albums.
Although I do shopping both ways, I have noticed that on many occasions the website is cheaper than the store! Plus without the tax it is a nice savings if you are making a large purchase.
They also have a Barnes and Noble credit card which is also nice, they give you 1% of all your purchases back as a gift certificate (for every $1,000 spent, you get $10), 2% of BN purchases which is a nice little deal. However, they take a LONG time to deliver the certificate to you. It took over a month of waiting to get my $20 certificate for my June purchases.
