I don't frequently shop online. I know many people are comfortable with doing their shopping online. Lately I noticed you can even buy groceries online. There are many reasons why I prefer to visit my local stores. Since I'm a very fussy consumer, I like to go to a local retail store by my home and check out products. Sometimes while at a store I may change my mind about a specific product because while I shop I may find something else on sale or see that the product I thought I liked was not the quality I expected. I also enjoy walking, shopping and buying gifts and necessities.
My online shopping experience has been limited for times I had no other choice and was in desperate need of something. For those times I've needed something in particular that cannot be located locally I am glad to do a search and find it online. For instance, I purchased a GE under the counter radio several years ago and is no longer available at any store near my home. I wanted to buy for a gift last year for my daughter since she had mentioned she liked my clock radio and wanted one. After checking several local stores, I gave up searching and decided to check online. I was happy to find it at Amazon. I knew the particular model and the cost was what I expected it to be. I've also found it convenient to purchase gifts and have them shipped to another state rather then for me buying, packing and shipping it to the recipient.
1) Why Amazon.com
Recently I needed to buy something specific for a Christmas gift and could not find in all the stores that carried this item last Christmas. It was in stock thankfully at Amazon.com and within a week I received the items.
2) The website
Amazon.com's website is very easy to navigate. There are tabs at the top. One of which is to "See All 36 Product Categories or you can type in the search line for a product. I've always found what I was looking for. At times the results were too many and it might take a while to find what you're looking for. On the left side there will be choices to help you along and on the right is usually information that may be useful in your search.
When I'm done, I click "Add to shopping cart". You can then click the yellow button on the right to "Proceed to Checkout". The next page you enter your email and password if you have one or create one. This page will encrypt your information. I have an account so it's quicker to process to the next page. I can choose to save the item or checkout. There are several pages before you actually purchase the item that will show all the pertinent information such as; shipping charges, billing address, shipping address, payment method (Amazon.com Visa, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club or JCB). You have the option of changing your quantity, or deleting the item. On the last page you will see the estimated ship date and the "Place your order" button. Only when you've clicked this box the order is placed. The next page will confirm your order and an email will be sent. I usually print the page before placing my order for my records.
Since my order was being shipped from 2 separate stores, my email gave me detailed information with 2 estimated shipping dates. I saved my emails to compare with my order.
3) Satisfaction
My order was for Christmas gifts which were not being opened until Christmas day.
I ordered and received my items within a week as stated on the emails I received saving me time and gas going around trying to locate my items. I have an account with Amazon so I don't want to check out all different online shopping sites when I can do it all in one location with one account.
From my previous experience, I know Amazon.com does it's best to ship promptly and sends emails with detailed information. I have not had any problems with products I've ordered. I am a satisfied customer that will use Amazon.com in the future for any items I'm not able to purchase locally near my home. I've compared their prices many times and found them to be competitive if not lower. There were a few times where their prices were way more expensive. Shipping sometimes is free and depends on who is shipping the items. Sometimes I can find a promotional code to save even more. If I know exactly what I want and know it will not be returned, I trust purchasing certain items and having them delivered. So far my experience locating what I want has been successful and therefore, am completely satisfied with all products I've ordered and received. I have not had any reason to return anything since nothing has arrived defective or not what I ordered.
Amazon.com has Merchants and Marketplace sellers that are "third party sellers". They also have business opportunities which I have not explored. I simply shop on Amazon.com for only new products I can't locate.
They have many reviews on products to assist you with your choice. To me they are not as detailed as Epinion's reviews. But I have not relied on their reviews for making any selections. I do notice here on Epinions with over 1,400 reviews on Amazon.com, the overall rating is 3 1/2. I would like to rate it 5 but have had no expereience with returns, therefore, I will have to give 4. They do state they will take returns within 30 days it it's due to an error on their end and they will pay shipping. I have no experience with returns.
