I had heard of B&N online store a lot and had visited a lot as well, but never had purchased (because if you do shop online a lot, many other online book stores offer better price. when I compare price, I usually choose to buy at other store). But when I was looking for some calendar for holiday gifts, what I wanted to buy was all sold out at other online store, so I visited B & N online, and they had the item in-stock, so I finally shopped at B &N online. they had free shipping offer for order $25 or more (even calendars, not just for book purchase), and also it's 3 business day shipping service, (it sounds fast, but now really unless you place order Sunday or Monday, your order will not arrive within the same week. the store offer next day delivery for NY residents, I wish they can do the same to customers in other states. Like office Depot, if order item is in stock in customer's local B & N, they should prepare by the next day and deliver it directly like Pizza).
My order total was over little bit more than $25, so I was qualified for the free 3 day shipping, but the next day I placed my order, the store notified me that one of my order was found backordered, so they asked me if I wanted to wait or not, the expected in stock date was after Holiday, so I had to cancel. After cancelled the item, my order total became less than $25, but still the store shipped me in stock items with no shipping fee. that was nice.
so now I know that the online store has a good service, but I have complaints about their site. the information are very unreliable or useless. For example, my baby loves Miffy (by Dutch Artist/author Dick Bruna), so I often check what kind of Miffy books are available now, I get lots of results on B & N site, not only books, it also shows Miffy toys info, but it usually says : this item is not available at B & N", (not back ordered, those items are usually discontinued), but the site says I can check by entering ISBN# of the item to see if any other store carry the item and usually I get error message that tell me the ISBN# I entered was invalid or something. this is useless, I don't know what for. I have e-mailed the store with question about it, and they could not answer why such discontinued item were listed in search results. The store is famous and everywhere in US, but it doesn't mean they are experts in Books, I think.
