Amazon lures shoppers of great cell phones and plans through its rebates on cell phones. However, these rebates are of highly dubious nature if not a total ripoff. Try making out all the conditions on these rebates. After endless reading of their confusing help pages, 3 emails to their customer service and finally one call, I figured out that I in fact DO NOT QUALIFY for their rebate. So I am cancelling the order.
I order a TMobile family plan (first 2 lines free) with 2 phones. However, order somehow gave extra monthly service charge for the second phone. So I started searching and in the end figured out that my second phone actually do not qualify for Amazon rebates. In order to clarify, I called them and they did say that secondary phones do not qualify for rebates.
Finding Amazon's customer service number can be very very difficult. In the end I was not able to find it on Amazon website but on http://clicheideas.com/amazon.htm
Here are the numbers:
US Customer Service
Phone toll-free in the US and Canada: (800) 201-7575
Phone from outside the US and Canada: (206) 346-2992 or (206)-266-2992
Another direct line: (206) 266-2335
E-mail: orders@amazon.com (I think this will still work, but no guarantees)
E-mail address and the fax numbers seem to go on- and off-line with some regularity. Readers have also had luck with the following addresses:
resolution@amazon.com
charge-inquiries@amazon.com
jeff@amazon.com
(This last e-mail address sends back an note from Amazon that using it won't help you. There may be nobody reading the e-mail that comes to this address.)
Amazon's rebate center: 1-866-348-2492
Amazon Corporate Accounts:1-866-486-2360
Here are the confusing and contradicting replies from Amazon customer service rep emails:
Last email:
Greetings from Amazon.com.
We are glad to offer family plans for customers who are interested
in purchasing Cell Phones and Service Plans. To purchase two or
more phones for activation on a shared-minute plan you will need to
first choose the service plan that interests you. Next, choose the
phone that will be considered the primary phone. Once this phone is
attached to the service plan, you will be able to add up to 4
additional phones and supplemental plans to your shopping cart.
You will only qualify for the Amazon.com and the carrier rebate, if
listed, with your primary phone. At this time we are not offering
rebates for any of the secondary phones. However, you will still
receive the discounted price for the additional phones.
I've included links for additional information below. Thanks for
shopping at Amazon.com.
The one before that:
To qualify for the rebates in our Cell Phones and Service store, you
must purchase a phone and accompanying service plan from our web
site. To be certain you will qualify for the rebate, please be sure
that both the phone and plan are in your shopping cart before you
click "Proceed to Checkout." Rebates are not valid for orders
containing only an upgrade phone (phone without service plan).
............
Rest assured, if you have placed a qualifying order for one or more
phones on or before the expiration date of the promotion, your order
will be eligible for the rebate on each phone. Even if your order
ships or is activated after the expiration date of the promotion,
your order will qualify as long as the order was placed on or before
the expiration date. To qualify for the rebates phones must be
purchased with an accompanying service plan from Amazon.com.
