I am a web-dominant shopper. I hate malls. Amazon started off great. You could get literally any title book for a great price. It took far less time than special ordering to a local store. Even with the shipping costs, the price break was enough that you broke even. Then they introduced Super Saver shipping which allows shoppers to spend a minimum amount and get free shipping.
However, Amazon appears to be losing their grip on their business. Lately, I find their on-time delivery is faltering badly. Of 5 overnight shipments, only 2 have arrived on time. In comparison, their chief competitor, who uses the same companies (there's really only 3: UPS, FedEx and USPO) has yet to miss a delivery date.
Twice, Amazon has promised release-date delivery for Harry Potter books. Twice, I've used this service to avoid midnight craze. Twice, the book didn't arrive on time. While some might recommend that in situations like Harry Potter books, it is unrealistic to expect release-day delivery, this would be a message I would pass to Amazon who appears to have over-stated their abilities. They've missed two Christmas deliveries, and in one instance, had to cancel the order on their end, because they didn't have the product in stock after all, and the manufacturer advised us that the product had been discontinued 3 months prior.
Perhaps "very big" can be "too big."
