There is little to be said that hasn't already been said. Newegg isn't perfect, but they ARE the best all around online retailer I've ever dealt with. I've spent appx. $3,500 (about 15 orders)in the last 7 months there, and the worst thing I've experienced was that 1 order was shipped after 2 business days, instead of their "normal" 1 day turn-around time. Even so, that was well within the parameters they established for shipping on their website.
Pros:
Excellent customer service.
Excellent shipping turn around time. All things shipped by FedEx super saver; which is both fast AND a LOT safer for delicate electronic equipment than the boys in Brown are with their ground shipping. While all newegg customers seem to rave about getting their packages 1 day sooner than expected, this is actually a function of the way FedEx tracking works. FedEx will give you a "Will be delivered by" date, but usually deliver 1 day faster than this. This delights most of Newegg's customers, even though it isn't *really* a function of Newegg itself, but rather of FedEx.
Prices are always good, but not always "best"; however, if you value your time and sanity, its hard to go far wrong ordering from newegg.
I also especially like the fact that they list shipping costs conspicuously with each item, making it easy to tell the bottom line cost. I hate having to go clear to the order page (like many sites) to find out what shipping costs are. See my small caveat below regarding this.
The wish list function is also very nice, makes it easy to "bookmark" things for coming back to later. OR, you can choose exactly what items you want, then email the list to friends/family. Seems like it would be great for those birthdays/holidays present situations. Your Mom may not know the difference between all those motherboards, or be able to find one; but with the wishlist email, she can click on a link, and purchase the exact thing you want. I can imagine this being VERY helpful for some people, though I've never used it this way.
Finally, there are a HUGE number of customer reviews of individual products. It's surprising how much you can learn from these, even if you're knowledgeable and have already done your research. Trust me. :) And the links to the manufacturer's website on each products page make it easier to DO that research.
Cons:
1. Not the widest selection. The most common reason I buy from someone other than newegg is when Newegg simply does not carry the item. However, they do allow customers to request that they carry items. I've never done this, but I really like that they offer it.
2. Shipping prices can kill you on small things like rounded IDE cables, fan grills, CCFL lights, etc. If you are just buying *1* such item, the shipping costs are competitive. In fact, if you are buying multiples of the *same item*, there are frequently shipping discounts. However, if you are buying 2 IDE cables, 1 floppy cable, 2 fan grills, 2 CCFL lights, and maybe a fan or 2 - the shipping costs can easily end up being more than the cost of the order itself. In cases like this, my first choice is Jab-tech, as they calculate shipping based on total weight, not on a per item basis. Even though the items may cost more there, the bottom line including shipping can be quite a bit less. (They are also a good e-tailer).
3. The site isn't always the easiest to navigate, or find individual items. However, after you use it a while, you get used to it.
All in all, It's one of a small handful of e-retailers I would recommend to people. 5 stars, easily.
