This is a true story: I was stationed at the NATO Base in Keflavik, Iceland and ordered my first DVD's from Amazon. They arrived quickly and I opened the DVD boxes to discover that one of them was empty! Dang! I HATE it when something like that happens! So... I called Amazon and told them what had happened - late on a Friday afternoon. On Monday morning I had a brand new DVD - IN ICELAND! Now THAT is customer service!
One of the great marks of a company is customer service, and Amazon's is the best I've ever seen from a web-based company. Not only that, but they are so comprehensive that it seems unlikely that I can think of anything I could want that they don't offer. As if THAT wasn't good enough, they also provide extremely easy to navigate links to get the same exact products from OTHER providers, either used or new, often for incredible discounts. It's not uncommon to find books and old recordings that can be had for pretty much the cost of the shipping.
Not sure if you WANT that item you're contemplating? Most likely there are MANY reviews, both professional and from your amateur peers, describing how good - or bad - that thing is.
What? You say you just LOVE that movie? (or book.... or music.... or gadget....) Amazon provides lists of some other things that you're likely interested in that you may have never heard of. Amazon would be a poor place for a compulsive shopper - it's easier to buy things than the Home Shopping Network - but it's also not overflowing with "junk". I'm sure you could buy mood rings or chia pets on Amazon.... but you can also probably get the best prices on Shakespeare and Spielberg.
