Barnes & Noble is one of my favorite stores. They have a hefty selection of computer books, better than BAM.COM AKA Books A Million, and they concentrate on selling books, in contrast, Amazon sells everything but the kitchen sink.
I started shopping at BN back when Amazon started to diversify and become an electronic Walmart. Not that there is anything wrong with Walmart, but Amazon stopped going after the small circulation books and little known authors that made Amazon great.
BN kept its focus on books and I began to shop more and more on BN because they try to do one thing well and that is to sell books.
BN does not have an auction or zshops or a million other distractions to compete for its time.
Usually I go to the brick store first to see if they have the book in stock and then if they do not I try to order it online. There are many advantages to having a "REAL" store over a VIRTUAL store.
One of these advantages is that if you get stuck trying to look for something a friendly sales clerk can help you.
Also, when you have to return a book it is much easier if there is both a physical store as well as a virtual store.
The advantage of a virtual store is that you can carry many more titles than a physical store.
Also I can look up books at Barnes & Noble.com when the physical store is closed.
BN has both Physical stores and Virtual stores so it meets my needs better than Amazon.
At work I can order books over the internet and have them delivered to my place of work. These are highly specialized technical books that are not available at the physical store.
BN tries to make me feel like a valued customer and helps me find the books I need for my job, I cannot say that about all other online bookstores.
