We are avid readers. I prefer shopping the brick-n-mortars so I can take my time browsing and see what's new. I do actually prefer Barnes-N-Noble for browsing simply because their stores are laid out better. All the Dragonlance novels are together rather than scattered by various authors. However, Books-A-Million (BAMM) has a much cheaper discount card, at $10 per year as opposed to BnN's $20 per year. So, when we can't find what we want locally, we go to BAMM's website first.
One thing we have a hard time finding is Cigar books. Nick is really into his cigars and I just can't believe local retailers don't carry more than one or two selections at a time. Crazyness. This last order we spent over $150 on books. Both his cigar books and my Arthritis books. Local retailers lost out, BAMM online won. heh.
I like their site because it's easy on the eyes. It has a basic white background and doesn't overwhelm your senses. They have selected featured books on the front page, along with current discounted items. At the top you can search Books, Bargains, Magazines, Joe Muggs, Faithpoint, Audio, and Hard to Find. Nice and simple. I like the lay out a great deal.
The site runs very smoothly for us too. Some sites I've tried to shop hang up and stall, or are too convoluted to be worth the effort. BAMM is just about as simple to navigate as they come.
They have a very large selection so 90% of the time my search starts and stops at BAMM. Any topic you can possibly imagine can probably be found here.
I've ordered numerous times from them and have zero complaints whatsoever. Shipping is free on orders over $25 so that negates my main aversion to on-line ordering. Ya can't beat free! All of my orders have come within a reasonable time frame too. I believe that this last set arrived within 4 days, and they send confirmation emails promptly.
I've been lucky enough to not have to ever deal with customer service, but am reassured in the fact that their 800 number is prominantly displayed at the top of the page rather than buried like some sites I've dealt with.
Their packaging is great too. My guys leave my packages on my front porch, rather than my enclosed side porch like I've asked them numerous times. This means if I don't open my front door for a few days (we use the side door) and it's rained, some packages may get damaged. I have, in fact, had book packages rained on. The books were packaged well enough that the rain never reached the books themselves. Very cool.
After a year or better of ordering through them with absolutely no problems, I'm giving them 5 stars and recommending them highly. Do go grab a discount card. You can use it online as well as at the physical store. Actually, I need to go do a little book shopping right now. It's storming here so why get wet when BAMM is a mouse click away..?
