In general, I have been extremely happy with Amazon. Great product selection, website and shopping cart is very easy to use. I've used them often, most recently for some last-minute Christmas gifts. Shipping is probably the only problem I would mention, and it's really just the consistency of delivery speed. For most items, especially books, delivery has always been earlier than expected. The problem comes when you try to purchase from one of their "partner" stores. The first issue is that their "free shipping" offers are not always good for these items. The second is that the delivery time is not so reliable. Some things ordered have taken quite awhile. However, that said, my last-minute gifts ordered from partners did arrive days earlier. One interesting thing, though, is that when I tried to choose standard shipping (which was free), they popped up a warning that said, "These items will not arrive by Christmas, you may want to upgrade your shipping!" The items actually arrived five days before Christmas, so while I'm glad for it, I sort of felt like they were trying to get me to pay more. A better warning would have been, "These items MAY not arrive before Christmas."
I have been ordering from them for a few years now and have yet to have a problem (no delivery, error with the order, damage, etc.), so I have not had to deal with their customer service dept.
I like the gold box offers - where you have 60 minutes to choose special offers. They're usually pretty decent deals. While some may think it's an invasion of privacy to have them recommend items, or store marketing information, I personally find it quite convenient and somewhat nice. It all depends on how you feel about such a thing.
