Over the years, I've shopped for everything from cds and dvds to books, cd players, and cell phones on Amazon.com. I've invested a lot of time and money into the site, and have alot of good things to say, but one glaringly bad note to end on.
The Bright Side
Amazon.com is awesome. Their easy to learn and use interface allows me to find anything I want, when I want it. Supplementing this is a gigantic product stock and selection for every category of items. The user revews AND amazon.com editor reviews attached to every item certainly aid in my online shopping conscience and serves to warn me about potentially mediocre items. Their interface, selection, and ease of payment options are there best points and are what keeps me coming back.
The Dark Side
There's always a dark side. Amazon.com is great to shop at, until you're waiting for your order. Amazon.com orders all seem to take an obscene amount to arrive. Once I had ordered a dvd that had amounted to a 20 day wait for me. Never once has an item arrived within a week. The sad part is Amazon.com's marketplace is often quicker and cheaper than their flagship front shop. For CD's and DVDs and especially books, head to the Amazon.com marketplace (New and Used) for better prices and quicker shipping times.
Amazon.com is a staple of a satisfying online experience. However, as the Internet continues it's growth, Amazon's less trafficked shops (all categories that aren't CD, DVD, or Books) are quickly being replaced by other websites catering specifically to an audience of cell phone enthusiast, or technophiles. Amazon is the veritable online department store, sure everything is in one place, but if you look harder, you'll find it cheaper somewhere else. I'll shop at Amazon again, but it certainly is a far cry away from being my only shopping destination.
